El cuento sale adelante gracias al apoyo de la Sociedad Gaditana de Historia Natural (SGHN), Proyecto Eremita, Waldrappteam, y de numerosas instituciones dedicadas a la conservación del ibis eremita, reflejando el enorme trabajo colectivo que hay detrás de la recuperación de esta especie.
Se trata de una historia divertida, llena de aventuras y descubrimientos, pensada especialmente para los más peques… aunque aviso: puede enganchar también a adultos con alma exploradora y pasión por la naturaleza. A través de las peripecias de Alfie, conoceremos mejor a los ibis eremita: sus migraciones, sus hábitats, sus costumbres y los retos de su conservación. Y por el camino nos acompañarán dos personajes irresistibles que seguro conquistarán a lectores de todas las edades: la vaca Paca y la garcilla Cotilla.
Además, esto es solo el comienzo: el segundo cuento, protagonizado por una ibis nacida en la torre de Castilnovo de Conil, ya está en el horno… ¡y el tercero nos llevará hasta el proyecto de reintroducción catalán de Fundació Alive!

The first book in a very special NORTHERN BALD IBIS trilogy is finally here!
Córdoba-based author Antonio Pestana, with wonderful illustrations by Lidia Pestana and English translation by Chúss Fernández, presents the first story in a bilingual collection, published in both Spanish and English, that promises laughter, learning and an even deeper love for one of the world’s most fascinating and endangered birds: a species that we are lucky to have so close to us, and one that feels more a part of our lives with every passing day. The book has been made possible thanks to the support of the Sociedad Gaditana de Historia Natural (SGHN), Proyecto Eremita, Waldrappteam, and many institutions devoted to the conservation of the Northern Bald Ibis, reflecting the enormous collective effort behind the recovery of this species.
This is a fun and heartwarming story, full of adventures and discoveries, specially created for younger readers… although fair warning: it may also win over adults with an adventurous spirit and a love for nature. Through Alfie’s adventures, readers will discover more about Northern Bald Ibises: their migrations, habitats, behaviours and the challenges involved in their conservation. Along the way, two irresistible characters are sure to win everyone’s hearts: Paca the cow and Cotilla the cattle egret.
And this is only the beginning: the second story, featuring an ibis born at the Castilnovo tower in Conil, is already in the making… while the third will take us to Fundació Alive’s Catalan reintroduction project!
